Dear President Akinori Morimoto, The City Planning Institute of Japan (CPIJ), President Chan Ho Kim, the Korea Planning Association (KPA), President Tran Ngoc Chinh, the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association (VUPDA), And all members and delegate participants of the 2023 International Conference of Asia-Pacific Planning Societies (2023 ICAPPS),

Good morning, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen!!

To my great honor and pleasure to meet old friends and new friends from Japan, Korea, and Vietnam physically instead of an online conference. We are glad to witness that we all overcome the COVID-19 attack and get together to learn from each other in Vietnam. First of all, I would like to thank President Tran Ngoc Chinh and VUPDA team for organizing2023 ICAPPS this year and providing us the great opportunity to explore “Sustainable preservation and promotion planning for historical cities” directly in such a beautiful, energetic, and historical city “Danang City”.

On behalf of Taiwan Institute of Urban Planning and all participants from Taiwan, we sincerely look forward to have wonderful discussion both from academic and practical perspectives for “the values of historical cities”. Since we come from different countries and cities with different “context”. I do hope we can contribute our expertise, experience and context nothing left and make it become “new context” to others and help them to find the values of historical cities “in the new context” together as the annual topic emphasized this year.
